Wooden Garden Sheds - Not Just A Storage Facility

Article by Gavin Evans

Wooden garden sheds offer up a perfect blend of style features to complement any garden as well as a selection of great practical benefits. Many gardeners, both young and old, still opt for the timber variety over metal and plastic models to help maintain that natural rustic look in their back yards.

There is no mistaking why wooden sheds have become one of the traditional must haves of any household. Aside from the aesthetic beauty they add to the outside of a home, they also serve many purposes. Storage is the most obvious reason why homeowners erect garden sheds. Gardening equipment such as spades, rakes, a lawnmower and brushes are just an example of some of the most common items you might find in a garden shed. Other than that, the shed can also serve as a safekeeping place for furniture, equipment and extra materials that cannot be stored in the house.

So, a storage facility is the traditional purpose of a garden shed. However, nowadays people are finding more ways to make their wooden garden sheds useful aside from being just a place to keep garden equipment and domestic clutter. These days, garden sheds can come with a wide variety of features such as double glazing, shutters and even skylights. Walls are now made of board and batten sidings instead of the flimsier traditional plywood. Sheds are, unmistakably, becoming more an extension of the main house rather than just an outside storage structure.

With garden sheds now being built with more than just four walls and a sloping roof, they are becoming comfortable enough to provide personal space and relaxation to homeowners who crave some private time. Individuals who enjoy hobbies in their time away from work can enjoy them in peace in this garden getaway. Artists can use this area to paint, children can use it as a play area and individuals who work from home can use it as a garden office. It can also serve as a workspace for parents and even children who are engaged in crafts and other hobbies. Garden sheds are also being used as offices for people who work from home.

Contrary to what some people think, garden sheds made from wood are not a hassle to maintain. As a matter of fact, they are actually very hard wearing and demand little on-going maintenance; probably just a once yearly coat of wood preserver is all your garden shed will require. Ready-made wooden garden sheds are available in many home improvement and gardening supply stores. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Some are built using special timber applied with chemical preservatives to prevent rotting. Many gardening stores now give customers the option of ordering their garden shed via the internet from the comfort of their own homes making the buying experience so much simpler and less stressful.

For gardening fanatics, many DIY kits giving a step by step guide for constructing garden sheds can be found in most good garden centres. Two important things to consider are choosing a sensible, flat location upon which to build your shed and choosing the materials wisely for the construction. Sometimes, city or state regulations will require you to obtain a building permit for the garden shed, so it is still best to consult with the local authorities before attempting to put one up. Other than that, the only requirement to build a sturdy and stylish garden shed is some patience and a bit of ingenuity.

Face Painting – Tips in Creating a Tiger Design

Face Painting - Tips in Creating a Tiger Design

Article by Abigail Lewis

How easy is it to paint a tiger face?

This article leads you through the painting of a tiger face for children at a birthday party, for example, step by step. The article reveals how the various different layers and details of the tiger face are built up using face paints. Tips about the shades of paint colours that need to be used and details about the quality of the brushes and sponges that should be used are also highlighted throughout.

Naturally, different colours can be used in order to create different effects in the painting of a tiger face, but the step by step guide outlined below provides the most basic and the most popular of tiger face designs as a start. Before you begin to paint you will need a supply of clean water, a dry towel (to place around the person's neck who is being painted) and either some wet wipes or a damp flannel (to keep your hands clean).

Step 1:Use a sponge in order to paint a white area around the mouth in a dabbing technique. This will help to keep the whiskers white and bright later on in the process.

Step 2:Use a clean sponge to paint yellow around the eyes, cheeks and chin. This will form the perfect base for your tiger face.

Step 3:Use another sponge (in order not to mix the colours together) to add orange around the outside of the face. Then comes a tricky step in the process. You will need to begin blending the orange and yellow together by going slightly over the edges of the yellow paint with the orange. Make sure that you use a fair bit of water to make the paint workable enough on the face and to not cause discomfort to the person being painted. Also, if the paint is too dark you can keep blending using the yellow and orange sponges together until you reach the effect that you are happy with.

Step 4:Use a medium thick brush to paint on some white eyebrows above the eyes. Use the line of the person's actual eyebrow as a guide. However, make sure that you lift the brush at the end of each stoke in order to create point that resembles the pattern on a tiger's face.

Step 5:Add brush strokes around the mouth to create the whiskers with white paint. If you lift the brush as you come to the end of each stroke and flick the tip of the brush slightly, you will achieve the pointed look necessary to make the whiskers clear and life-like.

Step 6:In this step, we have reached the moment when we need to begin adding the white stripes across the face that the tiger is so well known for. Start your brush strokes at the outer edge of the orange paint and drag them in towards to nose. A tiger's face doesn't have joined striped in the centre of the face, so this effect needs to be re-created as well as possible. Lift the brush as you drag it to create the tapered look to the stripes that the tiger has with ease.

Place a fine line of white with a smaller brush underneath each eye as these stripe markings are very important to capturing a life-like version of a tiger's face. Then, use some black paint to add a nose. Follow the natural flare of the nostrils of the person that you are painting and this will help to ensure that both sides are even. For this you will need a thinner brush too.

Step 7:Use the same black and the same brush to add a line from under the nose to the top lip. Ensure that this line gets larger as you go down the face in order to incorporate the top lip as you arrive to this point on the face.

Paint both lips black and then add black stripes in the same way as the white ones, but use a thinner brush with the black so that the face doesn't become to full of stripes and nothing else. The number of stripes is down to personal preference, but too many can make the tiger face design unrecognizable.

Step 8:Use a very thin brush to add small dots above the top lip in black and to run a very thin outline around the white whiskers and eyebrows that you have already painted. This effect will give more definition to the face and make the design more recognizable.

The final touch is to add a sprinkling of glitter. Due to the nature of the colours, gold looks the best and around the edge of the face works wonders for adding sparkle for a party kind of vibe. Avoid working too closely to the eyes with glitter for obvious reasons. In fact, glitter gel, as opposed to loose glitter, is normally a better choice of material as it is easier to control.

How To Refinish A Cabinet

How To Refinish A Cabinet

Article by Chris Hegi

Doing a cabinet refinishing Portland project yourself can be very effective if you know the correct way to complete this task. This article will discuss how to refinish a cabinet. Whether you hire a professional or do it yourself, it is important to educate yourself on the steps involved in the process to make sure you or a professional are doing it correctly.

First, take everything out of the cabinet and drawers. They need to be completely empty before starting. Then check the cabinet thoroughly for any damage such as wear and tear or rot. Decide whether any pieces of wood need to be replaced and do so accordingly. Once this has been done, remove all the shelves and cover all areas with a drop cloth. Then you are ready to remove the handles and hinges off the cabinet doors. Finally, remove the doors and make sure to label them so they go back to the correct place.

To prepare the wood for refinishing, wash the cabinets, doors and drawers with a mild household cleaner that is safe for wood and rinse with cold water. Make sure to fill any holes that you see with wood putty and/or wood glue and make sure they are completely dry before proceeding to the next step.

You must determine the existing finish of your cabinets to figure out how to remove the old finish. Different types of finishes include shellac, wax, varnish, paint or vinyl. Some types require more steps than just sanding. Once you are ready to sand, sand your cabinet doors, drawers and faces to allow the new paint to go on smoothly. Sanding removes gloss and irregularities and provides a clean slate to work with. Clean up all the debris and dust caused from sanding in order to eliminate those small particles that could get into your paint.

Now it is time to apply paint or varnish to the area. When looking to do a cabinet refinishing Portland project, it is in your best interest to choose quality paint. A good paint can increase the longevity of the refinish. Start by painting the cabinet doors, then the drawers and finally the frame. Make sure to paint from top to bottom to avoid paint drips. After applying one coat of paint, apply another after it is dry. Once the paint is completely dry, you can replace the handles and then attach the doors.

Cabinet refinishing Portland projects require time and patience. If done correctly, you can completely change the look of your cabinets. Proper preparation ensures that the cabinet refinish will last for years and require very little maintenance.

Creative Strategies for Leasing Retail Space

Creative Strategies for Leasing Retail Space

Article by Rebecca Beckett

We're all getting sick of talk about the economy and how most areas of business are struggling. However, for those in the real estate market, it may never have been as tough as it is now, especially in regards to office leasing. Retail space is a different beast than a regular house. Retail leasing brokers are going to be challenged or are already being challenged like never before. While leasing is still taking place it takes much more creative strategies to solidify the deal.

As in most businesses, it is taking more work and time to close deals than are making less money. It's the sad truth, but salespeople have it tough. People have to work harder and smarter to get the job done. There are some strategies that you should employ to help you and your team.

Teamwork

Work as a team. Work beyond your stereotypical real estate role. Don't let yourself get tied down with what you don't do or what you have never done in the past. No role, job or idea should be too small to pursue. With layoffs, tightening of belts and the need to get creative, people are going to need to stretch their limits considerably. Incentives

For most sales teams, there are incentives offered by the company when goals are reached. By awarding special incentives to those that are going above and beyond, it encourages people to work hard and work together. The types of incentives that are offered can vary in size and don't have to mean that the company is spending money. Maybe it simply means recognizing a top sales person in the sales meeting - this draws attention to the job they have done well and shows how the company is behind their work supporting them.

Be Aggressive & Creative

Keep up the relationships that you currently have and continue to work toward developing relationships with those people you want to sell to. Use the economy and the things happening in it to strategically focus on the people you reach out to. Do you know of a particular industry that is going through changes? Can you meet their needs or desires with the type of business you are selling? Reach out to people and find out what they need to see if you can fill something in their lives. While being aggressive and persistent is essential in solidifying business, this does not mean being pushy and annoying. You need to understand that many businesses are going through a lot of changes right now. While they may not be able to afford your service right now, if you keep in touch they may be able to in the future and you may be able to offer something of interest to them down the line as well. How will you know if you don't keep the lines of communication open?

Let's face it. These are not ideal times but that is okay. We can all get the job done through teamwork, hard work and creative strategies. It is important not to get your mind set on failure - then you really will fail. Focus on getting through the hard times and working through what needs to be done to make that happen. Meet your customers' needs and the rest will fall right into place.
